Antique Autos and Historical Vehicles (Rule 20.G.)
An antique auto is an auto of the private passenger type which is 25 or more years old that is maintained solely for use in exhibitions, club activities, parades, and other functions of public interest, and occasionally used for other purposes (Rate in accordance with Rule 31). If the auto is used for private passenger purposes on a regular basis, classify and rate it in accordance with Rule 30.
An historical vehicle is a vehicle which is over 25 years old that is owned solely as a collector’s item for use in club activities, exhibitions, tours, parades, and similar uses, including mechanical testing, but is not used for general transportation (Section 257.20a of the Michigan Vehicle Code). Rate in accordance with Rule 31.
Rule 31. ANTIQUE AUTOS AND HISTORICAL VEHICLES
A. Determine the rating territory (Rule 50).
B. For BI, PD, PPI and PIP
coverages, rate as private passenger autos and multiply the territorial base
rates displayed in the territorial base rates table (R-7) by 0.338.
Note: For registered historical vehicles under Section 803A or 803P of the Michigan Vehicle Code, charge 20% of the applicable MCCA premium, rounded to the nearest whole dollar (refer to Appendix 1). In order for a vehicle to be assessed at the historical vehicle assessment rate, the vehicle must meet the definition of historical vehicle as defined in Section 257.20a (refer to Rule 20.G) and must either have a historical vehicle registration plate or authentic Michigan registration plate.
C. Uninsured Motorists Coverage
Rate as private passenger autos.
D. Physical Damage Coverage
1. Deductibles are not available.
2. Charge the antique auto
rates displayed in the Private Passenger Rate Section (R-12).
Note: The policy shall be rated and issued on the Actual Cash Value of the auto at the time of the issuance of the policy. The value of these autos must be verified by the submission of at least one up-to-date photograph and an up-to-date appraisal of the auto. The term "up-to-date" means not more than one year old.
E. Surcharges do not apply to antique autos or historical vehicles.
